Charles MacLean

Charles MacLean has been described by The Times as 'Scotland's leading whisky expert'.

He has been researching and writing about the subject for thirty years, and during this time has published over a dozen books about Scotch - several of which have won international awards and have been translated into many languages.

He was the founding editor of 'Whisky Magazine', and the founding presenter of 'SingleMalt T.V.', regularly contributes articles to magazines in Britain, Europe and Asia, and is a consultant to Bonhams International Auctioneers. He starred in Ken Loach’s recent film, 'The Angels' Share', which won the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2012.

He was trained in 'the sensory evaluation of potable spirits' by the Scotch Whisky Research Institute in 1992 and presents frequent tastings and talks around the world. He is a member of the Judging Panel of the International Wines & Spirits Competition, and won its award for 'Outstanding Achievement in Scotch Whisky' in 2012.

He acts as a consultant to the whisky industry on a variety of matters, and was elected a Master of the Quaich - the industry's highest accolade - in 2010 for his services to Scotch whisky.
