Fiona Thackeray’s short story collection, The Secret’s in the Folding, was longlisted for the Edge Hill University and Frank O’Connor Prizes.

Her work has won awards including The Macallan, Woman’s Own, and Neil Gunn competitions, and featured in anthologies, The Guardian, and on BBC Radio. In 2007, she gave readings at the Bydgoszcz International Book Festival as a guest of the Mayor.

She has taught creative writing workshops for prisoners, school-age writers and gypsy travellers. Her work has been published in translation in Portuguese and Polish. Fiona is writing her first novel, about clandestine slavery on Brazil’s modern sugarcane plantations.


I really enjoyed the event on Friday, and I am glad the audience did too.  It‘s been an absolute pleasure. It went really well, with a very warm audience - laughter from the start put me immediately at ease.

Off to Canada in the morning with Mark Billingham. Hope they‘re as appreciative as in Blairgowrie.
