'Meet the Authors' in Kirkmichael

4th Jun 2014

The first BOOKMARK Fringe event of 2014 is scheduled for Saturday 21st June in the village of Kirmichael, when a sextet of authors - some local and others from slightly further afield - will be reading from their work and chatting about it with all who would like to drop by.

Two familiar faces from last year's event are poets Elaine Mutch and Archie McBrain, both offering locally inspired Scots verses. Writing duo Marion Duffy and Elaine Atkins, aka 'Mirren Jones', will be presenting their debut novel Eight of Cups, a six-stranded saga of friendship covering four decades, while Angela Jeffs will be discussing her travelogue Chasing Shooting Stars. Then something for the children with Christine Findlay's Colonel's Collection, a popular series peopled by a host of Scottish animals and featuring the delightful illustrations of Louise Gow. Joining them will be our Writer in Residence, Joan Lennon, who will be happy to talk about her own books and also the work she is currently doing with BOOKMARK.

The event will be held in the Kirkmichael Hotel between 1.30pm and 4pm, with 'Open Mic' readings between 2pm and 3pm.  'Meet the Author' also forms part of the Kirkmichael Summer Festival which takes place the same weekend, so why not come along and make a day of it?

Many congratulations - Bookmark was a tour de force!

The Muriel Spark day was brilliant and wonderful to close on the poetry with Gerda and Stewart
