BOOKMARK successfully secures funding for a second year

8th Jun 2014

BOOKMARK Blairgowrie, Rattray and the Glens Book Festival committee is delighted to announce funding support for this year's Festival.

Perth and Kinross Council supports East Perthshire by awarding the Festival £3,000. There will also be an additional £1,000 for publicity specifically to attract people from outside the area with the intention of significantly increasing footfall, so boosting local business.

The Festival will also receive £1,000 from the Royal Bank of Scotland Community Fund.   Blairgowrie and Rattray Business Association (formerly The Merchants' Association) has donated £250 to fund a writing workshop for young teens - a new venture for BOOKMARK.  The Proctor Group has generously donated £250 to fund a local author who will be participating in miniBOOKMARK , the young people’s programme.  The Provost's Civic Office will host the drinks reception on the opening night.

This announcement follows the recent award of £2,100 from Scottish Southern Energy, specifically to take the Festival into the beautiful Glens with events in Straloch, Kirkmichael and Bridge of Cally over a number of weeks.

BOOKMARK Chair, Christine Findlay, said, "We are delighted that we have managed to secure funding from all of these groups. I would like to think that it indicates a belief that BOOKMARK can bring something special and inclusive to the life of our community and beyond. It's up to the committee and our supporters now to prove them right by ensuring that this year's festival brings the joy of reading to as wide an audience as possible and, in particular, to our young people."

Broadcaster and writer Fiona Armstrong, Patron of BOOKMARK, commented, "It's excellent news - the local community are really getting behind the festival and it's especially pleasing to see funding for young readers."

As the Festival gears up towards its 2014 Launch at the Royal Hotel on 27th June, this news represents a vote of confidence in the Festival and the community who has enthusiastically supported and enjoyed this exciting venture.

I really enjoyed the event on Friday, and I am glad the audience did too.  It‘s been an absolute pleasure. It went really well, with a very warm audience - laughter from the start put me immediately at ease.

Off to Canada in the morning with Mark Billingham. Hope they‘re as appreciative as in Blairgowrie.
