Children's Author Barry Hutchison Wows Local Schoolchildren

11th Jun 2014

Last week BOOKMARK brought award-winning children's author, Barry Hutchison, to Rattray Primary School where he entertained over fifty Primary Six and Seven pupils, including a group from Kirkmichael Primary.

His mad humour and hilarious readings from his 'Invisible Fiends' series kept his audience in fits of laughter. The pupils loved the scary bits and the rude humour. Mr Mumbles, the main character in 'Invisible Fiends', turns out to be a child's abandoned imaginary friend. And he doesn't like having been forgotten so spends much of his time seeking revenge on the one he sees as his betrayer. All great fun!

The pupils certainly seemed to think so, judging by their comments. 'Barry Hutchison's presentation was very clever and I think it was imaginative and funny. I bought one of his books,' said one, while another commented, 'The visit to Barry Hutchison was very comical and hilarious. He has a very vivid imagination and it's good that he still can spread so much fun.'

In 2012 Barry received the  Scottish Children's Book Award for 'The Thirteenth Horseman', from his Afterworlds series.

You can find out more about Barry's books on his website. Copies of his books may be purchased at 'Louise', formerly The Bookshop, Allan Street, Blairgowrie.

All excellent speakers. Enjoyed all.
