Dining on snapshots at the Bridge of Cally Hotel

30th Sep 2014

On Thursday afternoon, fringeBOOKMARK launched its September event in The Bridge of Cally Hotel with guest speaker, Glyn Satterley. After a delicious lunch, a near capacity audience was treated to a visual feast of iconic photographs from Glyn’s latest book, ‘Going to The Hill’. Here he records the landscapes, people and wildlife who frequent our Scottish sporting estates.  In words and images, the book documents the changes which have taken place over the years across these landscapes.

Trained at art school, Glyn eventually found his natural medium in photography. His eye for composition and atmospheric light gives his photographs, many of them black and white, a haunting appeal.

In a delightful series of anecdotes, Glyn filled in the stories behind the images which capture dukes and duchesses, peat cutters and fishermen, with the same deft touch.

A great afternoon out and further evidence of BOOKMARK’s commitment to bringing the festival to The Glens.

Sincere thanks to Petrina Menzies from The Kirkmichael Session House  and to The Scottish Hydro Drumderg Community Fund for making this possible.

“I didn‘t wait to be invited back, I invited myself, in fact that‘s why I wrote another book”

BOOKMARK is better than most because it is superbly well organised, you look after me so well and because you, as a community, are so interested in books. I feel you actually want to hear what I have to say It‘s a marvellous event.  I will be back again if I can think of another book to write.
