Poets Stewart Conn, John Glenday and Gerda Stevenson came along to St Catharine’s Hall, Blairgowrie on Saturday 17th  March and charmed a large audience with their outstanding poetry.

Each poet’s selection, read so well, rang chords with their listeners; from Clydesdale horses to hill climbing; Tay pearls to fairy tales backwards; overshadowed ‘quines’ from the past. Sad, funny, lyrical, eye-opening and so much more, this event proved that poetry is part of all our lives.

‘It was an excellent afternoon’: ‘Can we have more events likethis?’: ‘This has completely changed my ideas about poetry’ were just some of the comments made. The poets themselves loved ‘the warm welcome’, ‘the great turn-out’and ‘the attentive audience’.

A delicious afternoon tea prepared by the Bookmark Committee followed and allowed the poets to talk to everyone individually – a perfect end to the afternoon.

They read from:
Time and Tide, Selected Poems, Stewart Conn
Grain and The Golden Mean, John Glenday
If This Were Real and Quines, Gerda Stevenson

It was fabulous to hear Janice Galloway read from her book Jellyfish. A great evening.
