Writer in Residence Opportunity in Blairgowrie

As part of a partnership between BOOKMARK (Blairgowrie, Rattray and The Glens) book festival and Perth and Kinross Place Partnership we are seeking to offer a six-month writer in residence opportunity based in Blairgowrie, Perthshire to begin in April 2014.

Salary:†    £25,133.57 - £28,362.07 pro rata (14 hours per week, may include some evening or weekend working)

Please note that this role will include some work with children, young people and vulnerable adults and as such the successful appointee will require an Enhanced Disclosure (Protection of Vulnerable Groups Registration).

Job Purpose  

 

  • To work with local community groups and schools to support and promote creative writing activity, including the production of new work to be read aloud in October at the 2014 BOOKMARK festival and displayed as part of an exhibition in Perth Museum and Art Gallery.
  • To offer information and support to individuals interested in developing their creative writing talents.
  • To contribute to the further development of BOOKMARK.
  • To work on own creative work, whether a project in hand, or a new project, in writing in any genre or related artistic production.  

The appointee will be required to work with representatives from BOOKMARK and Perth and Kinross Place Partnership to prioritise tasks and activities and ensure a balance in developing their own creative work.

The successful appointee must be a published author (working in any genre) who has previous experience of leading creative writing activities with children, young people and adults.

BOOKMARK (www.bookmarkblair.com) was constituted in October, 2012 and held its successful inaugural festival in October, 2013. As well as the main festival, the organisation held a number of other events throughout the year, including an author visit to a local primary school, a programme launch with a ëmeet the authorí event as well as fringe events in various locations within East Perthshire.

BOOKMARK is committed to promoting and encouraging the study, enjoyment and knowledge of literature in all its forms. In order to achieve these objectives, the organisation seeks to provide opportunities for reading and creative writing activities such as presentations and interactive workshops.

Perth and Kinross Place Partnership is funded by Creative Scotland and is a project which brings together local creative industries partners to further promote the arts sector and build a sense of identity and Place through arts practice. The Place Partnership is led by Perth and Kinross Council.
