BOOKMARK Appoints Writer in Residence

12th Mar 2014

BOOKMARK are delighted to announce the appointment of Joan Lennon as our Writer in Residence.

The 6-month part-time appointment. beginning mid-April and running through to the end of the festival (12th October), is funded by Creative Scotland money channelled through P&KC's Place Partnership initiative. During this period Joan will work with schools and other community groups to encourage and develop creative writing skills. The work produced by the participants will be performed at BOOKMARK'S main festival in October as well as exhibited in Perth Museum and Art Gallery. The final pieces will be published in a 'high end' publication towards the end of the year.

It is anticipated that Joan will be based in Blairgowrie Library.

Joan is a prolific published writer of books for all ages, including The Wickit Chronicles, Tales from the Keep and The Slightly Jones Mysteries.

BOOKMARK Chair, Christine Findlay expressed her pleasure at the appointment, saying, 'The BOOKMARK team is looking forward to working with Joan to really make an impact on the creative talents of young people in the area. Her enthusiasm and natural engagement with people will ensure she gets the best out of all who participate in the programme. She will be a huge asset to BOOKMARK, helping the festival reach out to a wide range of communities in Blairgowrie, Rattray and The Glens. We extend a very warm welcome to her.'

As for Joan, she tells BOOKMARK, "I am delighted to have this chance to become involved with the writing life of Blairgowrie, Rattray and the Glens.  Taking part in the first BOOKMARK Festival was such an excellent experience, and I am excited at being part of the build-up to the second - it's going to be fabulous!"

We heartily agree.
