BOOKMARK's Writer in Residence Makes Her Mark

15th Apr 2014

As already reported, BOOKMARK, in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council and Creative Scotland, has appointed Joan Lennon as Writer in Residence, an exciting asset for the area.

Joan Lennon was born in Canada but now lives in the Kingdom of Fife. The Kingdom is said to be shaped like the head of a dog - if this is true, her flat is somewhere on the tip of the ear, which explains a lot.  She has four tall sons and one short cat and plans to go on writing forever.

Are you a budding writer? Here’s an exciting new forum for you. Joan’s weekly blog on the festival website will be updated on Fridays, leading to an online creative writing forum. Starting with an introduction on 9th May, the following weeks will see a variety of prompts for your creative writing. The deadline for your short submissions will be the following Wednesday at noon. One piece will be shared each week.

Reached a hurdle with your writing? Need constructive criticism to develop your talent? You have the opportunity to meet individually with Joan at her writing clinic. Thoughtful, approachable and very encouraging, Joan will start her clinic in June, offering 30-minute slots, alternating Saturday 10 to 11.30 am with Wednesday 2 to 4 pm and meeting at the Royal Hotel. Appointments can be made directly with Joan:   joanlennon@clara.co.uk

Summer being just around the corner, Joan is planning a series of events in July in the new extension to Rattray Primary School:

  • Tuesday 1st July, from 10.30 to 11.30 am, ‘Tales from the Turret’, all ages, an author event open to a large audience.
  • Thursday 3rd July, from 10.30 to 11.30 am, creative writing workshop for 8 to 12 year olds.
  • Tuesday 8th July, from 2 to 3 pm, creative writing workshop for over 12 year olds.
  • Thursday 10th July, from 2 to 3 pm, creative writing workshop for adults.

Joan will be at the open community meeting on Thursday 15th May 2014 at 7.00 pm in the function room of The Royal Hotel Blairgowrie.

In the meantime, you can visit Joan on her own website
