BOOKMARK Book Festival
Perthshire's Book Festival
BOOKMARK 2025
2025 BOOKMARK FESTIVAL PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED THIS WEEKEND
The programme for the popular BOOKMARK festival will be announced this Saturday at a special ‘meet the author’ session to launch ticket sales for the event in the autumn.
The volunteer-run Blairgowrie and Rattray book festival will take place over the weekend of October 4-5 at Blairgowrie Community Campus, and, as in previous years, will feature a wide-ranging programme of sessions designed to appeal to readers of all genres.
The line-up will be announced at 2pm on
Saturday, July 19
at the
St Catharine’s Centre
George Street
Blairgowrie.
BOOKMARK Chair, Gail Wylie said: “We’re very much looking forward to our launch event on Saturday where we will announce the exciting line-up of writers, both well-known and new, who are coming to the Campus this October for our main festival weekend.
“As well as the programme announcement, we’re delighted to welcome Carys Davies to the BOOKMARK stage. Her acclaimed novel Clear is a deserved recipient of numerous awards, including our very own BOOKMARK Book of the Year award in 2024, and has been short-listed for many more.
“Set in the 19th century on a remote Scottish island, Clear is a hugely evocative short novel that has been described as a ‘marvel of storytelling’, ‘astonishing’ and a ‘masterfully carved gem’ – we’re very much looking forward to hearing more about it from Carys and hope that as many people as possible are able to join us for what promises to be an insightful session.”
As well as the conversation with Carys and the festival programme announcement, a limited number of the popular weekend and day passes for the main festival will be available to purchase at the event.
There will also be refreshments and a raffle.
The BOOKMARK festival was established in 2012 after enthusiasts from one of the town’s book groups got together to bring renowned writers to the east Perthshire town to talk about their work. Guests and writers at previous BOOKMARK festivals over the years have included former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Ali Smith, Louis de Bernière, Denise Mina, Martin Bell, Alan Johnstone and Sally Magnusson.
Gail continued: “On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank everyone for their continued support, in particular our wonderful sponsors, including the Gannochy Trust and local businesses such as The A Proctor Group, Castle Water and Hodge Solicitors, who help make BOOKMARK the success it is.
“Thanks also to Something Special Flowers, who transform the festival venue, Perth Theatre and Concert Hall for the sound and lighting, Adventure into Books for providing a first-class bookshop, Perthshire Box Office, and our dedicated and hard-working volunteers who give freely of their time to ensure our writers and audiences enjoy the best possible experience.
“We’re very excited that once again so many acclaimed writers are eager to come to this year’s festival – if you haven’t been already why not make 2025 the year you join us!”
