Helen is fascinated by women's social history, particularly from the Victorian period to the Second World War. In her fiction she loves to shine a light on some of the lesser-known aspects of Scottish history and bring to the fore the experiences of women in those times. Her first historical novel, The Rescue Sisters, is set in Stirling in 1900 and has child rescue and migration as its backdrop. Her second, The Asylum Women, is set in 1911 and is about four women whose lives intertwine within a Scottish district lunatic asylum. Her next book, set between 1914-19, will be about the relationship between a young woman and a German man living in Scotland at the outbreak of the First World War and should be out later this year. Helen has been accepted for inclusion in the Scottish Book Trust's Live Literature Author Directory and has an MLitt in Creative Writing from the University of Stirling.
