Alan Johnson, former Home Secretary & Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer – was chaired by Fiona Armstrong. His book The Long and Winding Road charts his amazing journey from modest beginnings in a poor part of West London, through working for the Post Office and then as a full time official and later General Secretary of the Union of Communications Workers. From here he went into Parliament as Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle in the 1997 General Election. Alan took an enrapt and capacity audience through this path.
