Louis de Bernières, poet, musician and best-selling author of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin makes a very welcome visit to BOOKMARK to talk about his sequel to The Dust that Falls from Dreams. Both novels provide a sweeping, heartbreaking family tale which begins in idyllic childhoods before the outbreak of World War One. Characters include the children living in neighbouring houses whose lives we then follow as war approaches and through those difficult years. Louis will be discussing its sequel, which takes us to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) post war, among other places, and follows the successes and failures of his families. And there’s a welcome appearance of a certain Greek doctor… Louis will also be reading and talking about his poetry The Cat in the Treble Clef. Gail Wylie, BOOKMARK Chair lead this discussion.
