Melanie, in her weekly Spinal Column for The Times, gives an inspirational account of her, and her family’s, world since breaking her neck and fracturing her back in a horse-riding accident in 2010. ‘Is this what it feels like, I thought, losing everything?...I could safely bear witness and carry on writing in my head. A correspondent from a hidden war.’ Her book takes us deeper into her world, giving her readers an honest and acutely observed memoir about her world now which is full of difficulties, bravery, the bonds of family, the kindness of strangers.
