The story behind writing and self-publishing books was at the fore of the opening event of the Blairgowrie and Rattray book festival’s 2026 programme this weekend.

The ‘Meet the Author’ event, saw much-loved writer and BOOKMARK patron Olga Wojtas in conversation with a relatively new author, Elaine Whiteford.

Elaine has written two historical novels, The Rescue Sisters and The Asylum Women, which tackle important issues inspired by true stories from the Stirlingshire area, as well as a history of her local golf club in Stirling, and has self-published all three books.

As well as being a talented writer, the former chief executive of Clackmananshire Council is also a skilled underwater photographer.

Gail Wylie, chair said: “This event was a real meet the author event as we introduced the relatively unknown Elaine Whiteford to our audience.
